5 Tips for Getting a Seasonal Job in a Warehouse or Factory 2024

While we’re just getting into fall now, it’s soon going to be the winter season. For many factories and warehouses, that is the busiest time of the year thanks to the Christmas holiday. Often, businesses need to increase their output multiple times over in order to meet demand – which is why they hire so many seasonal workers. If you’re looking for seasonal jobs at warehouses and factories in Mississauga, Brampton, Peel, and the GTA, we’ll show how you can get one in this blog.

Keep in mind that there will be a lot of competition, so you have to make sure you stand out from the rest of the people looking for seasonal and temporary jobs. Follow the tips in this article to secure yourself a well-paying position.

1.    Start looking for seasonal jobs now

You may be thinking now is too early a time to be looking for seasonal work during the holidays. However, it’s never to early. Many warehouses and factories begin their search for temporary and part-time workers for their busy season in the fall because this is the time when they have to amp up production.

Don’t wait till November or December to look for a part-time or full-time seasonal job. September and October are the best times to begin your search because this is the time when many companies start looking. You’ll have a much better chance of getting a seasonal job now because you’re starting earlier than the rest of the competing candidates.

2.    Get your resume ready

Whether you want to work in a factory or warehouse, you’re going to need to get your resume ready to share with potential employers. Update your latest job experience and skills so that your resume reflects the value you can bring to your new employers. Your resume doesn’t have to be too long or detailed; it can be one or two pages. However, it should contain the details of your previous employment, any new or unique skills, and your education.

Talk to your references to give them a heads up that you are looking for a seasonal job, and let them know they may be contacted by potential employers. Some candidates like to put their reference contact information directly on their resumes to save hiring managers the effort of asking you for them.

3.    Work with a staffing agency

While you can certainly look at online and in-person job boards or visit seasonal job fairs to get a temporary job, we think the easiest way to land a seasonal job is with a staffing agency. At Noble Human Resources Solutions, we work with many great employers with factories and warehouses who frequently hire temporary workers for the Christmas holidays. We have access to many employers at a time, which makes the job search much easier for candidates.

All you have to do is fill out one application – our Job Seeker Form – and tell us what kind of availability you have and what kind of job you’re looking for. We’ll review the details and then place you with one of our many employer partners who will be a great fit for your skills and experience. It’s that easy!

4.    Tap into your network

One of the best ways to land a seasonal job is to let your personal and professional network know what you are looking for. Talk to your friends, family, neighbours, and previous colleagues to let them know you are searching for a seasonal job at a factory or warehouse for the Christmas holidays. They may know of a place that is hiring or may have insight into which place will be hiring soon.

Networking is a great way to find work because it provides you with a leg up over other candidates thanks your personal connection. Many workplaces even have referral programs for their current employees who help find new ones, so be sure to talk to people who work at warehouses and factories as well. It may benefit them to help find you a job at their workplace.

5.    Talk to your previous employers

If you’ve worked at a warehouse or factory in the past, you may want to connect with your previous employer as well. They may be looking for seasonal workers and may want to bring you on again as an employee. If you’ve already worked their, the business may not need to retrain or onboard you a second time, which is a cost benefit for them. For you, this means you can hit the ground running as soon as you start, instead of having to spend time in training.

Keep this tip in mind for after the season is over. Let your new employer know that you may be looking for seasonal work again, such as during the summer months. They may want to keep your information on file so they can contact you the next time they are hiring temporary workers to cover a busy season.
