When it comes to job searching, timing is everything. Depending on the industry you’re in, there are seasonal hiring trends you need to be aware of as applying during certain times can significantly increase your chances of getting hired. Similarly, there are certain times of year when you may be out of luck and have few chances of landing a job. In the warehousing, factory, and manufacturing space, hiring trends differ from industry to industry as well – for example, the food industry will have different peaks than the automotive industry. However, there are some hiring trends that are universal in this space, which we’ll talk about in this article.
If you’re looking for a new job, it’s best to get your timing right!
Historically, and in all industries, January and February are typically considered peak hiring months. Why? This is usually when companies renew their hiring budgets. People are back from winter vacation and ready to start a new year in order to hit their hiring targets. However, it’s important to keep something in mind: depending on the industry the warehouse, factory, or manufacturing plant is in, there may be less demand for good jobs in January and February. That means that in some cases, hiring will actually be slow in these months than in other months. However, that’s not the case for all industries.
In the months of March, April, and May, candidates have a good chance of being hired, especially in the factory, warehouse, and manufacturing space. A lot of companies hire in the spring time for their summer demand increase. This means that while you may be hired in the spring, you may not actually be starting your new job until the summer months. However, this isn’t the same for all industries, but many companies hire seasonal workers during this time for the summer rush.
In June, July, and August, and often September, many factories and warehouses hire seasonal workers for an increase in demand. While a lot of this hiring is done in advance in the spring, many companies also hire seasonal staff in the summer as well to fill up last-minute open positions. Whether you’re looking for full-time or part-time work, it can be a good idea to apply for work during this time. Whenever possible, apply earlier so you have a better chance of being hired. Keep in mind that many hiring managers take vacations during the summer months, so that can affect the hiring timeline as well.
In September, October, and November, factories, manufacturing plants, and warehouses are busy hiring temporary staff for their increase in demand for the Christmas season. Many companies double or triple their staff at this time to meet consumer needs. If you’re looking for a temporary position, you’re likely to find it in the fall. Keep in mind that you will get a lot of hours in a short amount of time, as companies have high targets they need to hit. Hiring tends to slow down in December. Many companies shut down for a week or two weeks, many hiring managers take vacation, and the job market tends to come to a halt for a short period of time.
While it’s important to be aware of hiring trends, sometimes you don’t have the luxury of waiting till demand for employees increases. If you want to be able to get a job in the factory, warehouse, or manufacturing space at any time of year, follow these tips:
